Social Impact for Women, Gender Diverse & First Nations Peoples
Everything we do we aim to have a positive impact on the lives of women, gender diverse and first nations peoples. Whether it is through our legal, consulting or advocacy work our social enterprise model ensures that we create this positive social impact.
We believe in a world where women and First Nations people have self-determination, live with equality and the ability to exercise all human rights in the blink of an eye. Gender, race and other differences are celebrated and promoted.
Annual Impact Report
We report on our impact regularly with Social Traders (Social Enterprise certification) and the Australian Pro Bono Centre. You can read out latest annual impact report here The Violet Co(llective) FY23 Social Impact Summary
Our community partners
We provide pro-bono legal and consulting services to organisations that share our vision. In addition, our team volunteer and hold Non-Executive Director positions on for-purpose organisations.
Empowering students through workplace integrated learning
Hands-on workplace integrated learning for University and High School students is one way that Violet Co supports women, girls and First Nations students to gain an insight into our day to day. We hope that this experience can empower choices in future directions.
Ways we create impact
Pro bono legal services - Violet Co is a signatory to the Australian Pro Bono Centre’s National Pro Bono Target. We were the 200th signatory! We offer pro bono and discounted rates for our for-purpose clients and support a range of initiatives focused on women and First Nations peoples rights. In FY21 we will report our first annual results. Watch this space.
Supporting community organisations - Violet Co partners with community organisations focused on women’s and First Nations people’s rights.
Environmental and ethical offices - The Violet Co offices are situated within Hub Australia - a BCorp organisation. Our office is a certified carbon neutral workspace using 100% renewable energy and carbon offsets. You can find out more about our environmental footprint on the Hub website.
Procurement - Violet Co uses suppliers that are environmentally and ethically conscious. We pro-actively choose to procure from businesses who meet these standards and are owned by women and/or First Nations people.
Why we pride ourselves in being a social enterprise
Business for Good
As a certified social enterprise, we give our clients, community and stakeholders assurance that we are creating genuine impact through trade and business.
Our clients can be sure their spend is with a genuine social enterprise, contributing to a more inclusive, equitable and sustainable Australia.
Social enterprises must do three things:
Have a defined primary social, cultural or environmental purpose consistent with a public or community benefit, and
Derive a substantial portion of their income from trade, and
Invest efforts and resources into their purpose such that public/community benefit outweighs private benefit.
There are three social enterprise impact models:
Profit redistribution – donates at least 50% of profits or revenue to charity.
Employment-generating – creates employment and training opportunities for marginalised people.
Community need – delivers accessible products and services to meet community needs that are not met by the market.
Violet Co is a “Profit redistribution” social enterprise.
